VWER discussion: 12 noon SLT 4 January: The New Media Consortium: will it be missed?

Sheila Webber
The New Media Consortium: will it be missed?
Discussion in text chat: Virtual Worlds Education Round Table, at 12
noon SL time on Thursday 4 January 2018.
Place: VWER on VSTE in Second Life

Topic: The New Media Consortium: will it be missed?
In late December the sudden news came that the New Media Consortium
was closing because of suspected financial irregularities. THe NMC is
most well known for the annual Horizon Reports, both the original
higher education report
https://www.nmc.org/news/its-here-get-the-2017-nmc-horizon-report/ and
the K12 edition

However NMC was also very active in the early days of Second Life
(with several sims, free educator tools etc.) and has other active
projects such as that to do with Digital Literacy

Sheila Yoshikawa will start the session by outlining how she has found
NMC useful, and then moderate a discussion about whether other
educators have also found NMC useful, and what other organisations are
doing that is similar (or better) to support educators and to look
forward for new educational trends.

The session will be led by SL: Sheila Yoshikawa (outside SL, Sheila Webber)
When and where: The VIRTUAL WORLDS EDUCATION ROUNDTABLE meetings start
at 12 noon SLT (3pm ET - 8pm UK time) on Thursdays on VSTE in Second
We meet at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/VSTE%20Island/27/27/22
