buying or renting a land ?

Sevda Ceylan

Hi,
Im new in SL and I have some question :)
Im in Ph.d student in Turkey. I need a cheap land for some educational training for two month.I have 20 student with me . Which size is better for me? (One Student will use nearly 400 sq m) And which permission will  I get with renting? Can I use the air also or just build on the land?

Will renting is enough for it or ı have to buy a land?

Thanks for the helping.
Best Regards.

Re: buying or renting a land ?

Granaas, Michael
Land rental is generally a tad bit more expensive than buying outright because the owner of the land needs to make tier payments and have something left over for themselves.   On the other hand, rent is frequently paid on a weekly basis so you don't end up paying for land well before/after you are done using it nor do you need a premium membership.

Generally rental comes with building rights for the renter.  Whether those rights extend to others will be up to the land owner, but can certainly be arranged.

In addition to m2 you need to consider the number of prims that folks will be using simultaneously.  If folks will work on their build and pack it up when done you need less land than if folks are leaving their builds in place when they are done.

It is easy enough to set up platforms at different altitudes for folks to work on so you are not limited to building on the ground.

Depending on your specific needs there are folks on this list that will allow use of their existing land for little or no $L.  I myself have some space that folks are welcome to use, although they are not build friendly.

Hope that helps,

Michael

Re: buying or renting a land ?

Leslea
Hi,

Just for information: I have a 'building school' in SL which teaches basic skills to folks. The sandbox, tutorials and land are freely available for anyone to use at any time as long as they clean up afterwards. Please contact me if you want any more info. or special requests.

Also, land costs 1.3 lindens per prim per week if a person is paying tier to Linden Labs- so if you are renting, you can expect to pay about 1.5 or more.
